Perioperative Medicine

The RNSH perioperative team provides innovative multidisciplinary patient-centered care. The team is involved in the development and implementation of optimisation and ERAS pathways, as well as, interventions to reduce perioperative complications. Along with the pre-admission clinic, we offer a specialised clinic (You and Your surgery clinic) to ensure complex patients are empowered to make the best decisions about their health and wellbeing in the perioperative period.

We are enthusiastic about ongoing improvement in patient care and offer opportunities for involvement in quality improvement and research projects. In particular, we are excited about the growth and innovation within our Perioperative Medicine service, exemplified by our new digital platform for patient screening and optimisation prior to elective surgery, and the opening of our new Perioperative Care Centre.

There are plenty of opportunities for registrars to get involved in the Perioperative Medicine service. For Fellows, there is the opportunity to lead the Perioperative Medicine Portfolio, while advanced trainees are offered a specialised perioperative medicine term during training. RNSH is one of the few training sites in NSW for the ANZCA Chapter of Perioperative Medicine
